What I love about Moab is how much variety exists within it. The national parks get all the attention, but the BLM land surrounding them is where I take a lot of my couples. Same stunning landscape, no permit required, and you get to actually have the place to yourselves. For most couples, that’s the better move.

A few things worth knowing going in: Moab summers are hot. June through August takes real planning if you want to be comfortable out there. Spring and fall are the most consistent. Park City and Northern Utah

Park City is the location I find myself constantly making the case for, and I don’t mind because I genuinely love it up there. After your ceremony, you’re minutes away from great restaurants, comfortable places to stay, and a town that actually feels worth celebrating in. If you want a day that feels both adventurous and comfortable, Northern Utah does that really well.

The honest take on Zion and Arches

Both are genuinely gorgeous. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But as elopement locations, they come with a lot more complexity than most couples expect going in.

Permits, designated ceremony spots, specific time slots, guest count limits, restrictions on decor. And then there’s the cost of the permits themselves, which adds up faster than people expect. Overall it’s a more structured process, and it asks more of your planning, your budget, and your flexibility than most other Utah locations do.

That doesn’t mean they’re off the table. If one of those parks genuinely means something to you and you’re willing to do the work, I’ll absolutely help you figure it out. But I think couples deserve to know what they’re signing up for before committing to a location just because it looks incredible in photos.

Bonneville Salt Flats

If you want something that looks like nowhere else on earth, the Salt Flats deserve a serious look. It’s one of the most unique locations I photograph anywhere in Utah, and I’ve never gotten tired of it. The whole place has this calm, wide open feeling that’s hard to find anywhere else.

It does require planning to get right. The timing matters, the season matters, and arriving early is non-negotiable if you want the best light. But for the couple who wants photos that genuinely stop people in their tracks, it delivers every time.
