Looking for date night ideas in Utah? The best one isn’t about finding the perfect place. It’s about the two of you.
Who are you as a couple? What do you actually like doing? What have you always wanted to try together, even if you’ve never said it out loud? That’s where a real date night starts.
Some couples want to be outside. Others want to be curled up somewhere cozy. Some want to laugh so hard they can’t breathe. Any of those work.
I ask my couples these same questions before I ever suggest a place for a session. Every idea below is fun for the same reason: you’re actually doing something together, instead of standing around waiting to be told what to do. That’s what turns into a memory you keep, not just a photo you forget you have.
Date Night Ideas in Utah for Every Mood
Here they are, grouped by the kind of night you’re in the mood for.
If you want to make something together

Paint throwing. This is one of my favorite sessions I’ve ever shot. We hung a white sheet between two trees at a park, and the couple put on white shirts. They painted each other and the sheet. It was SO playful and fun, and it’s exactly the kind of memory they’ll hold onto forever.
If you want to be silly
The $10 thrift store challenge. This is my favorite idea on the list. Each of you gets a $10 budget. Each of you has to find something hilarious for the OTHER person to wear. Then you go out for a treat while wearing your new outfits.
I’ve been to some of the thrift stores in Utah myself, and exploring them is so fun. You find cool and funny things everywhere you look. Try Thrifthood, Confetti Antiques & Books in Spanish Fork, or Treasures Antique Mall.
The arcade. There are so many games to play, and you’ll never run out of things to try. The best part might be after, when you cash in your tickets for the silliest, cheapest prize you can find.
Karaoke. This one’s for couples who want to have a whole party together, just the two of you. Utah has a lot of fun spots for it: Heart & Seoul Karaoke in Provo, or Rock the Mic Entertainment in Orem, which has private rooms.
If you want a cozy night
A coffee shop or cafe. If the two of you already have a favorite spot you go to together, that’s the date. You don’t need anywhere new.

Mocktails and live music at The Social in Provo. Yummy drinks, good music, and a night that’s actually relaxing instead of loud and rushed. Talk, dance a little, just enjoy being together.
Food trucks. Grab food from a few different trucks and make a whole dinner out of it. Eat at a park, or wherever the trucks happen to be parked that night.
Pedicures. I photographed a couple getting pedicures together in Park City. It’s for a couple who’d rather relax and be pampered together than do something active.

Stay in for date night. Not every date has to leave the house. Cook dinner together, or make dessert, and just have a genuinely relaxing night in.

If you want to wander and explore
You don’t need a big plan for this one. You just need comfortable shoes.
Walking downtown, or down main street. This one’s for a couple who loves exploring the city they live in, or a city they’ve always wanted to spend more time in. Walk around, stop for food or treats or a drink, and see what you find in a few different areas.

Visit a record store. I photographed one couple who did exactly this. They wandered around and looked at the records. Then they got a soda and walked main street, just hanging out. It was a whole date night, no big plan needed.

A museum. If you two love history or art, this one’s for you. Take your time, follow whatever catches your eye, and talk about what you’re actually looking at instead of rushing through.
Sundance. Great for a couple with a more adventurous streak. There’s a lot to do in one place: the film festival, the scenic lift, outdoor recreation, nice dining, or just wandering around and taking it all in.
If you want to be outside
Paddle boarding at Tibble Fork Reservoir. I photographed a couple here, and they had so much fun on the water. Afterward, they stopped at a gas station for treats and drinks. That’s part of the date too!

An outdoor drive-in movie. For couples who love movies and the theater, with a retro twist. Bring snacks, stay in the car or set up outside, and watch something together under the sky.
Observatory star viewing. For a couple who loves astronomy, or just wants a reason to look up together. It’s also one of my favorite things to photograph, the two of you looking at the sky instead of at me.
If you want something a little different
A self serve car wash. This was one of my favorite sessions I’ve ever shot! The couple washed the car and each other. It was SO fun, romantic, and different.

Getting tattoos together. I photographed a couple who wanted to document their decision to get married. They went to Park City. Each of them wrote “I love you” in their own handwriting, so the other person could have it tattooed on them. They wanted to do something together that meant something.

If it’s fall or winter
Cold weather doesn’t have to cancel your plans.
A pumpkin patch. I’m biased about this one. My grandparents own Riley’s U-Pick in Genola! You can pick apples and pumpkins, get apple cider slushies, and enjoy the fall weather. I shot a couple here who picked their favorites and got slushies. Then they did the whole “pumpkin head” trend, carved pumpkins over their heads, for some cute (and a little spooky) photos. If you’d rather go in spring or summer, the apple trees bloom in gorgeous flowers as long as it doesn’t frost. It’s really a year round spot.
Snowshoeing. Utah has a lot of great spots for it, and it’s a good one if you two genuinely love winter and being active together.
What a date night looks like with me there
I ask about the activity first, since that’s where your attention goes, not the camera.
Then you’re just having date night. Watch the movie. Look up at the stars. Wander through the museum. I reassure and gently guide along the way.
With something fun to do, you might even forget I’m there. You get to enjoy your night, and you get the pictures to keep.
Not sure where to start?

Ask yourselves one thing: what do we love doing together? Or, what have we always wanted to do together?
Any of these can be a date night. It only has to be something you two enjoy.
If one of these date night ideas in Utah sounds like your night, I’d love to photograph it! I’m open to all kinds of date nights. Reach out and tell me what you two want to do, and let’s start planning. Want to see how it works? Read about an activity based couple photoshoot.
