Thinking about a winter couple photoshoot in Utah, but you two can’t stand the cold? Good news…you don’t have to wait until spring!
Winter sessions with me can look very different from one couple to the next. If you love the snow and the cold, great! We can be outside. If you’d rather stay warm, there are just as many options indoors. It really comes down to who you two are and what you like. That’s how I plan every session, in every season.
So here are my favorite winter couple photoshoot ideas in Utah, split up by how you two feel about the cold.
Outdoor winter couple photoshoot ideas in Utah
These are for the couples who actually love being outside, even when it’s freezing.
Playing in fresh snow. I photographed a couple who just wanted to play in the snow and have fun together. That was the whole plan. If you two love a fresh snowfall, that alone can be your session.
Ice skating. This is one I’d love to shoot. Hold hands, go in circles, and laugh at whoever wobbles first. If you’re in Utah County, Peaks Ice Arena in Provo has public skating.
Driving around to look at Christmas lights. This one is half inside and half out. Pick a neighborhood you love, drive slow, and then hop out at the houses that go all out.
Indoor winter couple photoshoot ideas in Utah
If you hate the cold, this is your list. A winter couple photoshoot in Utah doesn’t have to happen outside, because indoor shoots can be just as good as an outdoor shoot.
Baking at home. One of my couples made ready to bake cinnamon rolls. Nothing complicated, just the kind you pop in the oven. Then, when they were done, they sat on the couch and fed each other. So the activity doesn’t have to be impressive. It just has to be something you two would actually do on a cold night.

Movie night or game night. Stay home, pick a favorite movie or a game you get competitive about, and have a real night in. No one has to leave the couch.
Pedicures and tattoos together. I photographed one couple who got pedicures and tattoos together, and they were so silly and sweet.

Your favorite coffee shop. If you two already have a spot, that’s an easy winter session. Warm drinks, a corner table, and the place you already love.

A record store. I photographed a couple browsing records together. It’s a great pick when it’s cold out, because you can take your time and show each other what you find.
The library, the aquarium, or a concert. I’d love to shoot all three. Each place has its own rules about cameras, so check with the venue before you plan around it. I’m happy to help you figure that out.
The $10 thrift challenge. You each get $10 to find the most ridiculous thing for the OTHER person to wear. Then you go get a treat with your new outfits on. Also, thrift stores are warm, so it works in any weather.
Plan your session around a holiday tradition
Winter is full of traditions, and planning a shoot around one can be really fun. Think about what you two already do together every year when it gets cold. That tradition can easily become your winter couple photoshoot in Utah. You’re not inventing a reason for photos. You’re just doing what you’d do anyway, while I photograph it.
If you hate the cold, don’t force it
I’ll be straight with you…if you two hate winter, don’t try to force a snowy shoot just for pictures. Instead, choose something you enjoy and actually have a good time doing. That’s what shows up in the photos.
When you reach out, we’ll talk through what you two like to do. Then I’ll help you pick the activity and the spot. That part happens by text or a phone call, so it’s easy. During the session I’ll gently guide you, but mostly you two are just enjoying whatever you picked.
